Client Challenges

  • The leading telecom operator in UAE asked us to elaborate and facilitate a complete organizational restructuring and organizational transformation in order to prepare for an upcoming market opening and expected competitive environment
  • Furthermore the telecom operator wanted to diversify with international investments
    Especially the IT department wanted to realize the following goals:
              • Enable the telecommunication business in the UAE market with best-in class IT solutions generating                      sustainable competitive advantages
              • Establish IT as the driving force for IT innovations as well as enabler for business processes with cost efficient state-of-the art solutions

Our Approach

For the IT Transformation a three-phased approach was conducted

  1. Phase 1:
     • Assessment of the current IT organization and external benchmarking on IT trends / best practices in              Telcos,   
     • Definition of the IT Strategy and outline of the new IT organization aligned to international standards
     • Outline of the IT Governance Model : 
  2. Phase 2: 
     • Detailing of the IT organization in line with international standards, benchmarks and best practices
     • Definition of key IT processes aligned to international standards and best practices 
  3. Phase 3: 
     •Implementation support for the new IT department incl. PMO, Change Management and Training

Impact

  • New IT Strategy developed incl. definition of scope of IT services for subsidiaries and IT governance model
  • To-be application landscape defined and matched to (new) business processes
  • Areas for IT outsourcing and degree of IT outsourcing specified
  • Detailed target organizational structure for new IT organization including staff levels, job titles and job descriptions defined
  • Review and re-design of core IT processes aligned to international standards like eTOM, RUP and ITIL conducted
  • PMO, Change Management and Training Program with more than 100 different training / knowledge areas detailed
  • IT Project prioritization and resource management methodologies invented
